Cell Phone Television in the UK

We could soon be seeing television shows on our cell phones. The company Qualcomm has teamed up with UK company BSkyB to test cell phone television in the UK. This is the first time that broadcast cell phone television has come to the UK. Cell phone television has been more widespread in Korea and Japan for some time.

We expect to see about 30 channels from BSkyB being transmitted on cellular networks at a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels at as much as 25 frames per second. The cell phone television trials will use Qualcomm's MediaFLO technology and will launch sometime this summer. The MediaFLO technology is in direct competition with other formats such as DVB-H. This new deal with BSkyB will definitely help pave the way foo Qualcomm's MediaFLO technology to become the more dominant format.
