Gold and Platinum Ringtone Awards

The RIAA (The Recording Industry Association of America) is now giving ringtones gold and platinum status to recognize their sales. Last Wednesday at the Time Warner Center in New York 128 ringtones were awarded the gold and platinum status. The awards were calculated on the number of downloads of the ringtones to cell phones.

Artists who were awarded include rapper Rick Ross for his ringtone single “Hustlin, Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, 50 Cent, and Kanye. Of the awards given 84 were gold, 40 were platinum and 4 were multiplatinum.
