Protect your cell phone against theftUnfortunately cell phone theft more is common than ever but the total number of lost phones may be reduced by a new service introduced this week by Remote XT. The UK firm offers a complete security package that not only makes it hard to use the stolen cell phone but also provides a way to avoid losing the data stored on the phone. This solution requires only the installation of software onto the device operating system. Then once the mobile phone is lost or stolen the procedure to follow is simple. The owner only has to contact a call center and the phone is remotely disabled (permanently) and all the data contained in its memory is completely erased. The cell phone owner’s data is stored centrally by Remote XT and can be moved to another phone if the original one is definitively lost. It backups automatically every day e-mails, music, ringtones, text messages and all the personal data. In addition to this Remote XT also activates on the phone a high pitch scream that should discourage the thief. To be stopped the latter must extract the phone battery and with a lot of models that is not that easy so hopefully he just renounced to the cell phone. This service also prevents the thief to use the cell phone with a simple SIM card switch. The UK firm plans to release its package for Symbian and Window Mobile devices and it will require a monthly subscription fees. As for the supported mobile operators Remote XT is compatible will 3, O2, Orange, T-Mobile, Virgin and Vodafone and it requires phones that have a GPRS connection. |
