Sprint has officially announced the release of a new mobile email client for its customers. It is named Sprint Mobile Email and it is downloadable free of charge on selected Sprint and Nextel cell phones. According to the early reports in the possibility to port it to other cell phones is not ruled out.

The application is the result of the collaboration between the mobile data company and Seven, the leading global provider of software for mobile operators. Sprint Mobile Email comes preconfigured for use with several email providers like AOL, Windows Live and Yahoo.

Once the software has been downloaded it is already possible both to send and receive emails using those providers. Obviously it is also possible to add other providers setting up custom IMAP or POP email accounts.

The new software is capable of handling multiple email accounts too. Thanks to a multi tabbed interface Sprint Mobile Email in fact makes it possible to use simultaneously more than one account.

This way for example the user can view one email while composing another that requires information from the first one. All it takes is a simple click on the email tab to switch the visible account. To make the experience as much desktop-like as possible Sprint also added the possibility to create separate folders for the emails.

Sprint Mobile Email gives the user also the ability to compose a message when there is no signal and save it to send it as soon as there is data coverage. Sprint also thought about the possibility to use push email notification. When a new email arrives the software automatically synchronizes the user mailbox and, if the option is selected, signals it with an audible alert.
