Samsung unveils Blue Earth Solar-Powered Phone

Samsung has come out with a touchscreen phone that is completely solar-powered. It is called "Blue Earth."

The design of the Blue Earth is supposed to symbolize a pebble that has been flattened and rounded by the ocean waves. What sets the phone apart from other phones is that the solar panel on the back of the phone generates enough electricity to power the phone so that it is ready for use at all times. Another difference that makes the Blue Earth more Eco-friendly is that it is made from PCM plastic which is made from old plastic water bottles.

All of the accessories are also made from Eco-friendly materials. Materials such as Beryllium and Brominated flame retardation materials are not used in this phone at all. Samsung designed the phone to bring the attention of users to the importance of preserving the environment. There is even a mode on the phone called Eco-mode which makes the phone even more energy efficient.There is also an application installed on the phone that allows users to see how much energy and CO2 emissions they are reducing by using the phone and walking more.

The Blue Earth is expected to be released in the second half of 2009.
