Cell Phone AwardsThursday, April 13, 2006 The CTIA Emerging Technology Awards were held last week in Los Vegas at one of the biggest cell phone trade shows. The winners of the Cell Phone Awards were announced today. We recently reported the increasing popularity in ultra thin cell phones and it was no surprise to see the cell phone awards recognizing these ultra thin cell phones as winners. The cell phone awards had three categories. One for the best in the show as voted by attendees through text message, one for the best cell phone as voted by a panel of experts and one for Smartphones as voted by a panel of experts. Here are the results of the Cell phone awards: Best Cell Phone (as voted by attendees) The winner was the Samsung T509. This is one of the ultra thin phones which have been brought out by Samsung to compete in the ultra thin cell phone market. It’s not the thinnest phone but is very aesthetic. Best Cell Phone (as voted by experts) First Place: Motorola SLVR L7 Second Place: Samsung T709 Third Place: JitterbugDial from GreatCall. The ultra thin Motorola SLVR L7 came out on top set to become even more popular than Motorola’s previous model. The Samsung T709 has the ability to seamlessly switch between WiFi and regular cell phone signals making VoIP calls more accessible. This new WiFi cell phone technology was recently covered here. Smartphones (as voted by experts) First Place: Palm Treo 700w Second Place: Samsung i830 Third Place: Samsung T719 The cell phone awards also saw awards for cell phone accessories too. Other categories included best laptop integrated with WAN and cell phone services and software.
